Inconel 600 is a standard engineering nickel-chromium-iron alloy known for exceptional resistance to heat, oxidation, and corrosion. Designed for service from cryogenic temperatures up to 2000°F (1095°C) , it offers a desirable combination of high strength and good workability. Unlike precipitation-hardening alloys, Inconel 600 is strengthened only by cold work .
Its high nickel content provides immunity to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking, while chromium offers resistance to oxidizing conditions and sulfur compounds
Note: Inconel is a registered trademark of the Special Metals Corporation group of companies.
Key Features & Benefits
Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: Resists organic and inorganic compounds. Virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking .
High Temperature Stability: Excellent oxidation resistance up to 2000°F (1095°C) with good strength at elevated temperatures.
Cryogenic Performance: Retains excellent mechanical properties, including ductility and impact strength, even at sub-zero temperatures .
Alkali Resistance: Provides excellent resistance to caustic alkalis and high-purity water, making it a standard material for nuclear reactors .
Fabrication Versatility: Non-magnetic, readily weldable, and formable. Hardened only by cold work, not heat treatment .
